Please give me your ideas about this problem.
A “fast” scan took about 25 minutes. An “intensive” one also.
But that`s impossible. I remember that in former versions the “intensive” one took about 1 hour.
Do you have any idea why “intensive” is not performed ?
Thank you !
The problem is solved: optinos / general settings / x Activate skins for normal …
(free translation).
It works when “intensive” is activated with the new skin that appears.
BUT: “intensive” does not work with the other skin.
I hope you understand me.
Maybe someone wants to post his opinion, thanks !!
Thank you, CharleyO, for taking my observation into account !!
Let me give a closer decription (free translation to english):
1.: “PREFERENCES”
2.: Option number 5: “ACTIVATE SKINS FOR SIMPLE USER INTERFACE”
3.: when putting a check mark, the common avast skin appears when you want to scan for viruses. This skin gives you the choice of choosing the “intensive” mode. It works fine then. BUT:
4.: Option number 5: “ACTIVATE SKINS FOR SIMPLE USER INTERFACE”.
5.: If you DO NOT put a check mark, then (befor running the virus scan) ANOTHER and more simple skin appears. It is an original Avast skin, the alternative to the “simple user interface”.
ACCORDING TO MY OBSERVATIONS, THIS SKIN DOES ONLY CARRY OUT THE “FAST” SCAN OPTION !
IF ONE OF THE OTHER TWO OPTIONS (“STANDARD” OR “INTENSIVE”) ARE SELECTED, THE “FAST” OPTION IS EXECUTED AS WELL !
To me it seems that this skin might suffer a bug.
Please try it out yourself. If you observe the same problem, it would be worth reporting it to avast officially.
Yes, but I took Asuncion to mean that even though the setting is there in whatever skin this apparent problem shows up, Asuncion is getting no time difference in the two separate scans when the thorough scan should take longer. So, my observation was that possibly there was a errant command in the skin … if that is possible. Not being a skin maker, I am not sure how that works.
Maybe Asuncion will post again soon to say if I am right or wrong.

:)CharleyO you are absolutly right !
Thank you very much for your efforts !!!
In order to get further evidence of my observation, please try it out yourself.
This also refers to Tech.
You only would have to deactivate
Option number 5: “ACTIVATE SKINS FOR SIMPLE USER INTERFACE”
. Then you give the order to start the scan. Before the scanning starts, another skin will appear (on the left margin of this skin you will find numbers from 1 to 4).
Please try it out yourself.
Let it run for example on both etremes: QUICK and afterwards THOROUGH.
You will see that both scans take exactly the same time !
If you activate
Option number 5: “ACTIVATE SKINS FOR SIMPLE USER INTERFACE”
and give the order to scan afterwards, another skin appears.
Try it out, please. Choosing “QUICK” or “THOROUGH” makes a tremendous difference (= correct !). In my case for example, “QUICK” takes about 20 minutes and “THOROUGH” about 1 hour.
Please post a short remark about your results.
Special thanks to CharleyO for his time and efforts to understand my observation !!!
Assunción, maybe I’m wrong but IF you don’t have a lot of archive files in your computer (*.arj, *.zip, *.cab, etc.), maybe the time could be very closer one to another. The time of scanning depends also of what programs are running in background, etc. But, maybe I’m wrong and there is something different in your system. I never experienced different times with different skins and my scanning quich and thorough are very different in timing…
: what an incredible number of posts ! And what an incredible number of times you have helped other users, that`s realy FIRST CLASS !:
Of course you comments are highly apreciated by me, thank you very much !!
It might be that I am not representative with my observation, but there really is a difference in time between quick and thorough of aprox. 40 minutes.
Time for some measuring, here are my results :
(The conditions were exactly the same all the time.)
ARCHIVES are not scanned.
Standard skin:
Quick: 6:32 10595/964 files/folders
Thorough: 14:02 21475/964 files/folders
Simple user interface(skinless) 1,2,3,4 to the left:
Quick: 5:08 10595/964 files/folders
Thorough: 11:14 21475/964 files/folders
This does not confirm Asuncion’s observations, but it indicates that
the skinless interface is a bit faster than the standard skin.
The tests were performed in the sequence mentioned here, but no
significant reduction in time when repeating the test with standard skin.
