Hi,
I haven’t seen any answers to my problem. There are other posts but so far no answers. When doing a scan of my drives Avast freezes up and I have to go thru the task manager to shut it down. This freeze is at random times during the scan always stopping on different files. And as I said I need to open the task manager to get it to shut down. Usually I have to reboot and then it will scan all the through.
I use Win XP SP2
Avast 4 all up to date
Zonealarm 5.5.094
Where are the path and the extension of these files?
Additionally, you can go to the program settings and turn on the creation of the report file (with “OK files” to be included as well in the report). This way, you can find out where the scan really stopped (it’s going to be close to the end of the report).
After avast! disappears, check the end of the report file - the “troublesome” file is likely to be close to the end (close in the sense that this particular file will probably not be written in the report, but the previous one will be the last line, so it shouldn’t be hard to guess). We would certainly like to have this file - if it really causes problems to avast! - so that we could fix the problem.
The report file created (if you turned it on in program settings) will be (default location) at \Data\Report\Simple User Interface.txt
I’ve done 2 virus scans since I posted and the program hasn’t froze. I set the report log as you suggested and the next time it happens I will post it. It doesn’t happen with all scans. It has happened 6 times since I updated the program but it didn’t happen before that.
Thanks again

Does anyone know if there is a conflict between Avast! and spywareblaster? I’ve had 2 freezes since my last post. One stopped on the file musicmatch update and the other stopped on the file macromedia flashplayer but both happened with spywareblaster installed. I’ve uninstalled spywareblaster and it hasn’t happened again. I will post again if it does. I can’t post the exact file names because I get a hard freeze and have to come out of it by using the task manager.
Win XP SP2
adaware
spybot search and destroy
Windows defender

No, there isn’t and couldn’t be one. SpywareBlaster is static, not even an on-demmand scannig. avast is the resident.
SpywareBlaster is this, antispyware install tool. avast is an antivirus.
Have been running Avast and spywareblaster for a long time without a problem
I must say I don’t understand it. What is a “hard freeze”? I’d say it’s a freeze of the whole computer, pressing the “Reset” button being the only solution. But you say you used Task Manager to solve it… so you were able to kill the frozen process. Which one was it - avast! or Spyware Blaster? Did the process use (continuously) any CPU before you killed it, or was it idle?
SpywareBlaster doesn’t feature in the Task Manager list, it has no active processes. So I can’t see how it could conflict with avast. I have had both SB and avast for almost two years with no problems or conflict.
I’m sorry. I can get out of it with the task manager. I kill avast! virus scanner which says “not responding”. It must be something not playing well with spywareblaster.
I’ll just leave spywareblaster out for a while. I’ll do a fresh install of win xp and install one program at a time to find the problem. I did a fresh install about 4 months ago and found that after installing spywareblaster I had to uninstall my drivers CD to update spywareblaster. ( Dell Recource CD)
Thanks again.
go to google & look up regsupreme & down load it. It’s a registry cleaner & run it & let it fix the errors. Let us know if it helps…

As I said spywareblaster won’t be in the task manager list, if it is then it would appear to be something trying to look like spywareblaster.
What is it you are trying to get out in task manager ?
you could post a screen shot of the task manager window if it happens again.
What makes you think it must be something playing with or to do with spywareblaster as there is nothing in your info so far to support that, please expand.
