Hey guys. I’ve been shot but no blood.(Figuratively). Got home from the internet cafe put in my stick. Everything is shortcuts, but weirdly, Avast says nothing. Scan the stick, Avast says no threat found. Take out the stick put another stick, all files are okay. Put back the infected stick, no report or red card from Avast. Try opening one of the files, then it happens. Computer starts making weird sounds, Avast tray Icon starts spinning crazily. In desperation, pull the stick out and boot up safe mode. Really afraid of losing all my files. Please do help. No where to run…

Hi there first we will sanitise the USB
Download McShield to your desktop and install
It will initially run a scan and show the result as a toaster by the system clock
Then in the control centre select scanner and tick unhide items on flash drives
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/mcshield%20unhide.JPG
Plug in the drive and McShield will start a scan
Then get the log which will be here :
Start > all programs > MCShield > logs > all scans
And post that
THEN
Download OTL to your Desktop
Secondary link
[*]Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/73555776/OTL_Main_Tutorial.gif
[*]Select All Users
[*]Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
netsvcs

%SYSTEMDRIVE%*.exe
/md5start
services.*
explorer.exe
winlogon.exe
Userinit.exe
svchost.exe
/md5stop
dir “%systemdrive%*” /S /A:L /C
CREATERESTOREPOINT
[*]Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
[*]When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
[*]Attach both logs
Do you suggest I remove my important documents first through safe mode? Or should I follow your procedure first? Thanks for helping, Essexboy.
Run the sequence and all files should be safe
Here are the files you’ve requested for.
well, MCShield found and removed 3 infected files
Essexboy is probably in bed now, so check back tomorrow for his OTL log check …
Let me know of any problems after this
Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems
Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot
Run OTL
[*]Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

[*]Then click the Run Fix button at the top
[*]Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
[*]Open OTL again and click the Quick Scan button. Post the log it produces in your next reply.
Ummm EssexBoy, from where exactly do I start to copy it? From “Code” or from “commands”?
if you see where it say Code [select] click the select word … now everything inside the code box should be blue?
right click inside the code box and select … copy (ctrl+c)
then right click inside the OTL box and select…paste (ctrl+v)
Yeah, I just did what you told me and currently, there’s a dialog message that’s says, “Recent is a Windows system folder and is required for Windows to run properly. It cannot be moved or renamed”
On OTL, the words at the bottom are "Processing O4 - Startup: C\Documents and Settings\Jancy…
Now I don’t know what to do. Should I press “OK” on the message Windows gave me? Or should I just leave everything?
Could you confirm that the line currently being processed is this one in its entirety
O4 - Startup: C:\Documents and Settings\Jancy\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlog.vbs ()
I can’t say because after “Jancy” there is “…”. So I really don’t know.
Just checked and seems like yes, it is.
OK I wonder if the malware is messing with the system
Stop OTL
Go to Start > All Programs > Startup and delete the winlog.vbs entry
Then re-run OTL with this script
:Commands
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
:OTL
O4 - HKLM..\Run: [winlog] wscript.exe //B "C:\DOCUME~1\Jancy\LOCALS~1\Temp\winlog.vbs" File not found
O4 - HKU\S-1-5-21-1757981266-1715567821-682003330-1003..\Run: [winlog] wscript.exe //B "C:\DOCUME~1\Jancy\LOCALS~1\Temp\winlog.vbs" File not found

:Commands
[resethosts]
[emptytemp]
[Reboot]
I did your first procedure. And my PC rebooted and came back. I was confronted by a message saying that Windows can’t find OTL.exe. I then pressed OK, and to my shock, all the files on my desktop are gone! In my documents there is only one folder called “Cleanup Folder”, a folder I used to clean and organize my files. There’s nothing else besides that in My Documents. And I can still hear that virus messing with my system.
OK select the restore point created by OTL and go back to that
Then :
Download and Install Combofix
Download ComboFix from one of the following locations:
Link 1
Link 2
VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
- IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
[*]Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
[*]Accept the disclaimer and allow to update if it asks
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_disclaimer_ENG.png
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/ried7/NSIS_extraction.png
[*]When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
[*]Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
- Do not mouse-click Combofix’s window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
- Do not “re-run” Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
- If after the reboot you get errors about programmes being marked for deletion then reboot, that will cure it.
Please make sure you include the combo fix log in your next reply as well as describe how your computer is running now
Okay I did everything. Unfortunetly, I didn’t accept for the update because I don’t have internet on my PC. Anyway here is the file you requested
Here is the file.
OK lets now try to kill the last piece of this. Is the no internet intentional on this one or is it broke ?
-
Close any open browsers.
-
Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
-
Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:
File:: c:\documents and settings\Jancy\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlog.vbs
Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
When finished, it will produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require in your next reply.
Here is the file. And the internet thing, I use my phone or go to the internet cafe to access the internet.
