virus stops computer from opening programs including Avast

Hi,

I downloaded a virus pretending to be a JAVA update on icefilms.net. As i let the program in, I guess Avast did not see it as a malicious… Everything froze and i restarted the computer. Now, my laptop boots and gets to the desktop but I cannot open any programs. No internet explorer, No Avast! Only one program opens pretending to be Windows Defender and it asks for 60$ to download the windows anti-virus (which does not exist). How can I start avast? Can Avast be started from a boot disk or usb key to perform a scan and remove the virus?

BTW. I run Windows Vista.

Hi three programmes to run - two to kill and one to sweep up the residue and do any repairs

Download RogueKiller to your desktop

[*]Quit all running programs
[*]For Vista/Seven, right click → run as administrator, for XP simply run RogueKiller.exe
[*]When prompted, type 2 and validate
[]The RKreport.txt shall be generated next to the executable.
[]If the program is blocked, do not hesitate to try several times. If it really does not work (it could happen), rename it to winlogon.exe

Please download Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware from Here.

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.

[*]Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
[*]If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
[*]Once the program has loaded, select “Perform Quick Scan”, then click Scan.
[*]The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
[*]When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
[*]Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
[]When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
[]The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
[*]Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.
