I have a virus that sends itself to the contacts I have in my MSN Messenger list. I am not being able to detect it and clean it… Does anyone know the solution for this problem?

If nothing is detecting it… how can you know you’re infected?
Did you try running avast at boot and scan the computer?
Did you try a-squared and ewido (antitrojans)?

I know that I am infected because people on my contacts list tell me that they get a message (which is not sent by me) telling to follow a link. It’s a brzilian message that says something like “sacanagem…” Then my Windows Explorer freezes and I think it’s because of the virus…
Yes, I ran Avast at boot start and it only detected fake viruses from Panda antivirus software

Ignore any references to 023 entries for avast, this is a bug in the HJT 1.99.1, this has been mentioned many times in previous threads.

As Tech mentions, if you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download the one appropriate to your OS, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.

Ewido Security Suite If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.

Thank you guys for your help… I am running a-squared at this precise moment and it has detected 6 mallicious objects so far… I intend to run the other tool you also mentioned. I’ll let you know what happened.

Thanks, David. I have just finished scanning the computer with ewido and it found 165 threats !! Logger.Banker.bex was rated as high. The others were tracking cookies.
Well, I am not sure if I got rid of the virus I had but i hope so…

Ensure that you keep your OS, browser, etc. up to date to avoid exploits and regularly check for updates in security software below.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.

  2. Spybot Search and Destroy
  3. Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.
