when i submit a sample to virus total how quickly does it get to avast and added to the
definitions?
i have been getting e-mail viruses like the “storm worm” and a new variant today when
i get them i forward them to scan@virustotal.com and virus@avast.com subject scan.
i have been sending them to both addresses at the same time and was wondering if thats the right way to do things.
it’s easier for me because i do not like to save the attachments on my system to transfer to chest but i will if thats best.
ps is there a faster why to get to the chest without waiting for the memory scan to complete and the main gui to start?
I believe that it may be quicker if you add the sample to the User Files section (File, Add) of the avast chest and send it from there.
you don’t have to zip and password protect it as it will be encrypted, 2) samples sent in this way get filtered so they aren’t competing with the 4000+ emails per day received at virus@avast.com.
VirusTotal does inform participating companies of viruses not detected, but I don’t know the frequency of sending them out. I presume you have been zipping and password protecting those you sent to virus@avast.com or there is a possibility they might not get received if an email server en route detects and deletes the email.
earthlink does not scan outbound email i think because i got a report from virus total for this and others. for this one only 4 or so detected it kaspersky bitdefender avast mcafee and others did not detect it. earthlink uses symantec i believe.
Or as an option to Tech’s tip, create a shortcut on your desk top.
In windows explorer, go to c:\program files\Alwil Software\avast4,
in the right hand column, right click on Ashchest.exe. Highlite send to, select desktop(create shortcut).
