avast found a virus/trojon…in my memory files. it recommended i move it to the chest and to scan or test the memory…can’t remember…but when i tried said i wasn’t allowed, is my computer safe, with the virus moved to chest and what else should I do, conserned I may lose my operating system…please help as soon as you can…thank you.

Have you tried a boot time scan with avast!? Right click the scanner screen, select ‘schedule a boot time scan’ and reboot when requested.
As a double-check, try a scan with DrWeb CureIT!
When you have finished, scan for out-of-date and insecure software using Secunia Software Inspector and update any vulnerable software: this will help to prevent future infections.
Thank you. When I tried a boot time scan. it said there was an error, a handling error, but it did not give me any time to read it before it continued to reboot the system, any ideas?
There is currently a problem with the boot-time scan that occurred after a recent VPS update they are working on a fix. In the meantime you could try booting into safe mode and run an avast scan from there.

It will be good if you download, install, update and run AVG Antispyware. Some users recommend SUPERantispyware, Spyware Terminator and/or a-squared (take care about false positives).
If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.

Thank you, I have download AVG…I have used it before. and the results are there were 49 objects and a 118 traces meaning there were118 tracking my movements.when I sent the trogan to the virus chest it did help, but as was said I do have to wait for the boot issue to be resoled by avast. I downloaded the new updated version of avast. But now I have all theses avast on access msgs, that I can’t see my screen. Do you have any suggestions on how to stop having them appear on screen.?
This option, ‘Show detailed info on performed actions’ is off by default, so it would appear you have been tweaking avast without knowing the effect it will have. This function is also on the Web Shield and Internet Mail providers so you should also check those.

The last virus database makes boot time scanner works again.
At least I’m using it on Vista first avast installation right now.

I assume that you were able to do the boot-time scan since the VPS update.
