I have a virus / worm in my system that changes the directories, that I work with, to links / shortcuts and then when I want to open the folder, I get the following message; “problem with shortcut”, ’ The item ‘tiazehx.exe’ that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so… Do you want to delete this shortcut? yes / no’.
Using Pastel, an accounting software that creates it companies in different directories with the company name as directory name, if you work in one company for any period of time, after start up, no problem, but when you want to open another company, it tells you that all the companies has been deleted. I then have to restart the computer and all companies will be available again.
The folders are displayed as a yellow folder, slightly lighter than the normal folders, with a blue arrow pointing upwards, with a ‘folder’ size of 1 kb.
Does anybody know about this virus? how do I remove it without formatting the hard drive?
I have Avast free version on the machine, have done a boot scan. I have MS security essentials on it, done a full scan. Did a full scan with a free malware program. The only errors / problems they get is files that has the extension of *.lnk
Please ask any questions for more clarification because I need help to solve this problem!!!
If you need screen shots of the error/problem, tell me what you need and I will try and create it.
Pondus is right. Remove the one you don’t want to keep. This will make cleaning your system much easier, as well as improving system performance and/or reduce error notifications.
As our malware experts, jeffce and essexboy are top-notch, you will be in good hands. I suggest using the link posted above only for informational purposes only, and do not use Prevx to clean your system. Either one will happily do that for you, and do it for free. Neither will care if you decide to keep MSE instead of Avast, so…
It does take some time to get the cleaning process done, as jeffce is in the USA, and essexboy in Britain. Time zone difference does come into play. Please be patient.
