Help!!!
Avast! has found a virus/ worm and I cant seem to get rid of it. The program suggests that it moved to the Chest but when I do the message is “There is not enough space on the disk”.
The malware name is: JS:Yamanner [Wrm] "C:\Documets and Settings\George\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\20L50PJ4.Default\MAIL\LOCAL FOLDERS\INBOX"File
Any information would be helpful (as soon as possible)…
Hmm… you’ll lose all your emails in Thunderbird inbox if you send this file to Chest.
If you don’t send, the virus will stay in your inbox.
To increase the Chest size, right click the ‘a’ blue icon > Program Settings > Chest.
Don’t send it to the chest, effectively you may lose what emails are in your inbox as it won’t be able to put it back in the original location for a number of reasons, one I would assume TB would recreate the inbox.
You are going to have to try and manually find the infected email (likely to be one with an attachment) in the TB inbox. The avast information often includes the email subject which helps to find it manually. When you find it delete it in the TB inbox and then empty the Deleted items (don’t know if that is the correct TB name) folder and finally compress the folders that truly gets rid of it.
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections. I feel there be more information that you have posted.
Once you resolve this you shouldn’t use the inbox for general storage more of a pending tray once read and actioned, move it to a folder more appropriate to its content. The inbox is the one most likely to suffer from deletion or corruption with the resultant loss of emails in the folder.
Thank you both! I has able to open the Avast Log Viewer; Warning area but the line ran off the page and the adjustment bar at the bottom of the page did not extend it out far enough to read beyond \Application…
Right clicking on the line gave me six options, none of which open the line up to view. I have also gone to Menu-edit-filter and do not understand how to select the line I wish to see.
Again, HELP!!!
Thanks.
Thanks David,
Here it is. How do I locate this in the in box?
Sign of “JS:Yamanner [Wrm]” has been found in “C:\Documents and Settings\George\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\2ol5opj4.default\Mail\Local Folders\Inbox” file.
Thanks, George
Well if that is all the information it has (the same as the original post), I would say with difficulty as there is no reference to which email is infected, e.g. in other email clients like OE or Outlook, avast usually reports the subject of the email. But you are looking in the TB Inbox and ‘not’ using explorer.
As I said before you are most likely to be looking for an email with an attachment so you are going to have to order the emails into those with attachments and work your way through them. Saving the attachment to your HDD and scan with avast until you find the infected attachment then delete the email as I mentioned before. Did I say it was going to be difficult!
