I have been using neotrace for years
now I ugraded Avast to a new license and the program updated
and now it says my neotrace.exe has a virus
it is called: Win32-Patcher [Trj]
I checked around and could not find any virus named that
is this a virus or a false.
if it is a false how do I tell avast to ignore it
latest virus update and latest version of avast pro installed
as of nov. 3 2004
Help
???
Can you send the file with a short description to virus@avast.com, please?
This looks like a false positive. Please submit the file to JOTTI and let us know the results.
will it let me send it since avast thinks it is a virus?
Well, either you can disable avast! for a while when you’re sending it, or add (don’t move!) it to the Chest and send it right from the Chest.
roger that will send now
ok i moved it to the chest and now I can’t find it to send you
the chest has funny numbers in it and, no neotrace.exe
now what?
Start the avast! Simple User Interface, open its menu and select Virus Chest. It will open the Chest interface. From there, you should be able to select the file and choose “Email to ALWIL Software” from the right-click menu.
Actually, the file should have been added to the Chest in a similar way…
ok file is sent
plz let me know what you find
and like i said before.
can i tell avast to ignore this file?
Yes, you can put the file to the list of exclusions in program settings (and also to the list of exclusions of the Standard Shield (the last page of its settings).
by the way
I forgot to ask,
who will let me know at avast if the file I sent
was a virus or a false positive?
will I be notified or do I check the site for news?

Hi evilknight - I also have used Neotrace for many years. But, avast! has no problem with Neotrace on my computer. Maybe somehow, your Neotrace program has gotten corrupted? ???
I was told that the file is being detected on purpose, i.e. it’s not a false alarm (it’s some kind of process loader/patcher/crack).
I’m personally not very happy about the decision, but for now, it stays this way.
yes it is a patched file.
but does that mean it is a virus?
is it safe to still use?
if not I will get rid of the program.
too many trace programs out there.
patched/cracked files are never safe to use because they are not working like the creator has ment it.
Besides that. For (almost?) every paid application there is a freeware alternative which you can use legitimate.
No, it’s not a virus and it’s not dangerous. It’s just something that some people call “malware” - i.e. something not expected to be on a computer.
Thanks
Program is gone
Too many worries in life
to have something like this disrupt the harmony.
Peace

NeoTrace Express (from the McAfee corporation) is freeware.
