While i was using zone alarm home edition i found a program trying to access the internet.Iwas using 4.7.844 Avast home. I tried to put this file on the chest, but when i look up for it ,through the chest interface i did not find it.
I get norton 2002 and i find the file and i put it in quarantine.
It turned to be a W32.Linkbot, pinging to tellas.gr in Greece.
That which i am asking, is why i could not find it and submitted to you and i could with Norton.
Firstly using two resident AV scanners isn’t recommended, rather than give twice the protection it is more likely to cause conflict as they fight for control over the virus, which could leave your system more vulnerable.
Once a virus is detected the AV tries to lock the file whilst a second AV may be trying to scan the same file. However, no single AV will detect every virus and with two resident AVs you mightn’t know if the second AV would detect it if the file is locked.
If you are not getting a virus warning that you believe is a new, undetected virus then if you can zip and password protect (‘virus’, will do) the suspect file and send it to virus @ avast.com (no spaces).
Give a brief outline of the problem (possibly a link to this thread), the fact that you believe it to be a either a new, undetected virus and include the password in the body of the email. Some info on the avast version and VPS number (see about avast {right click avast icon}) will also help.

A link worth looking at, which is a program removal tool that can remove the remnants of a number of different Norton Programs:
Removing your Norton program using SymNRT
I was not using two resident AV scanners.
I install norton because that file when i was removing Zone Alarm it was communicating with some one and was not letting me browse the internet.
I did that because i was suspecting it was a virus.
Avast 4.7.844 Home edition.
The virus database was new, i had it updated.
Is the chest interface showing files, from some bytes and up?
I was not using two resident AV scanners. It isn't just using two resident scanners having them installed even if one is disabled can have an effect on the other.
That may be the case if you uninstalled avast before re-installing NAV. This could leave elements after a NAV uninstall, this could have an effect on the next time you install avast as it may detect these remnants. NAV doesn’t play nice with other AVs even after it is uninstalled as it is so deeply embedded into the system.
Is the chest interface showing files, from some bytes and up?Sorry I don't understand the question.
The virus was send to SARC in Symantec and it was recognized as virus.
Why could i not send it to you?
The file did not show up.
Did you use Norton at the same time as avast?
From where? From avast Chest? Before or after you’ve installed NAV?
Where? In Windows Explorer? In avast Chest? In Norton Quarentine?
No i did not use Norton at the same time.
Yes from the Avast chest, before i install NAV.
The file did not show up in Avast chest.
Good. Anyway, full uninstall of NAV is required to other antivirus to work well, I mean, no registry keys and files left behind… what could be not so easy.
If the file is not in Chest, you haven’t send it to there… It’s not possible to sent to Alwil from there, of course, because it’s not there.
Are you sure you haven’t deleted the file?
Are you sure your SMTP settings (check Program settings on avast) are correct?
