I keep getting these errors - svhost.exe.mdmp and appcompat.txt. Are these due to a virus or a windows xp problem? I did run a virus scan and superantispyware, plus chkdsk and nothing was found.
Thanks,

There isn’t an easy way to tell.
The .mdmp file is a microsoft dump file (dump being related to svchost.exe any memory data, etc.) and the appcompat.txt is a text file with more information to accompany any crash report. This is usually sent to MS when you elect to send information on the problem to MS.
So it could be almost anything relating to a problem with svchost.exe where windows has to shutdown the process or it crashed, etc.
Hello sonny,
were you hit with bsod?.
nmb
I ran malwarebyte and I didn’t have any infections. No, I did not get a bsod. However, I have been experiencing errors with OE failing to connect periodically, but not with Thunderbird. So, I’m not leaving OE minimized for now to see if I still get the errors. I can still work on the computer but some things don’t work, it might be the sound, or the firewall, etc.
I also, have a bios problem occasionally, where it boots to the bios screen instead of into windows. Seems it does not recognize the HD. A reboot seems to work. And, this has never interfered with the operations of windows. But now, occasionally, the computer reboots. Not sure if all is related.
Maybe I’ll buy a Mac for a change.
Cheers,
update your bios software and other drivers.
regarding the error, someone might come up.
What is the manufacturer of the system and the model number?
