Hello, I want to know if Avast Free Antivirus can protect the computer from Virus Flame?.

There are many topics relating to flame already
You only need to use the forum search function to see that it does, the detections are named Win32:Skywiper-? [trj] were the ? is an alphabetic character.
Also see http://www.avast.com/en-us/virus-update-history use your browsers page search for Win32:Skywiper and have it mark them all and you will see there are many such signatures.
