viruses found?

Hi,

Avast came up with one Trojan (win32:Qoologic-B) and a couple of adwares (win32: SrchAssist, and another I forget).

Do you see anything in the log below that looks suspicious?

Secondly, the program runs very slow, and stops with every virus found. Is there anyway to speed it up, (but with a thorough scan)? Also, is there a way to have the viruses move directly to the “holding cell” automatically?

You are using a very outdated version of hijackthis, please get the latest version from here: http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
Then redo and repost your log with this new version above.

What type of scan are you doing, is ‘scan inside archives’ enabled?
Also what are your computer specs (Processor/RAM etc)
Also how long is the scan taking to finish

If your talking about during a scan, then this is not possible in the Home/Free version (I’m not sure about the Pro/Paid version).

But if your talking about when Standard Shield detects a virus (when your not scanning) then yes, this is done by left clicking once the avast “A” ball in your Taskbar (next to your system clock), select ‘Standard Shield’, then click ‘Customize’, then click the ‘Advanced’ Tab at the top, then select ‘Silent Mode’, then lately check/click ‘With general answer Yes (OK)’.

It is taking in excess of 2 hours (estimated, as I haven’t had the patience to allow it to finish)

You do not have software a firewall installed, install one immediately, take your pick. Remember use only one software firewall on same machine.

And you seem to have spyware infections also. Download and update these, then scan your machine with these.

I did a boot scan, and the log I think is helpful follows. I don’t know what to do with them, however. Do you see anything there that should not be deleted? Also, I have not ran the standard test from the main program due to its slowness, and the files in the chest seem not to have changed.

Well when you run hijackthis, each entry it shows has a check box to the left of it, find the ones i said to remove then put a checkmark next to it, then press ‘Fix checked’ at the bottom.

So from your new log i can see that you still have this left to remove from hijackthis:

O9 - Extra button: PartyPoker.com - {B7FE5D70-9AA2-40F1-9C6B-12A255F085E1} - c:\program files\partypoker\IEExtension.dll

Then go to Control Panel > Add/remove programs, then uninstall ‘party poker’. ( as it look suspicious to me)

Then make sure this folder is deleted:

c:\program files[b]partypoker[/b]

Also make sure this file is deleted:

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files[b]clientax.dll[/b]

Then delete all your temp files, you can use ccleaner for this if you want: http://www.filehippo.com/download/ncAOCJr-Om3Lq35Rh3QQoQ2/download.html

Then run another boot time scan with avast to see if anything is still there.

One addition to Lee16’s post… install software firewall immediately. Look for my previeous post and download either Zonealarm or Kerio personal firewall.
