Viruses in some archieve cannot be removed

Avast can detect viruses in all the archieves but cannot delete or send them to chest from some archieves.

The error message is; archieve format not recognizable or cannot process the file

??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

It will be addressed in avast version 5.
Don’t worry, archive files are inert by default. If the virus come out from it, it will be detected.
Can you manually delete the file?

It was in system volume information and I changed its settings.
I limited the space to 200 MB and it was deleted automatically.

The virus name was win32 Aleuron

I suggest:

  1. Clean your temporary files.
  2. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
  3. Use MBAM (or SUPERantispyware or even Spyware Terminator) to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete them.
  4. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  5. Make a HijackThis log to post here or this analysis site. Or even submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  6. Clean your Hosts file (replacing it) with HostsMan tool.
  7. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
  8. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster.
  9. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

Step 7 will delete all your restore points (and with them, the infected files). Make a new clean point after that.

I removed the restore poitns and got rid of the virus. Avast was able to detect the virus but it could not remove it.

By the way tech! Do u work for Alwil!!!

It’s blocked by Windows. You need to run at boot time.
