Viruses Moved To Chest--Next Step???

I have:

OS: Windows Home Edition XP Version 2002, Service Pack 3, 32 bit

I am kind of confused using Avast! 4.8.

I have done two Boot Scans and several scans using the Avast! 4.8 Simple User Interface (the Silver Box Thingy).

I still have some sort of Spyware on my system that made its appearance on Wednesday evening.

It affects my Google search engine the most.

For instance, you use Google to search for YouTube, or even less famous websites, and when you click on the link, you are redirected to Yellowpages, or any other website except YouTube.

Yahoo is less affected. I am not redirected to different webpages when I click on the search links, but I still get pop-up pages using the Arrows when going back and forth between webpages.

Anyway, my question is:

I have moved 6 viruses to Chest.

What do I do next??

I scanned them (left highlight; right click > Scan), and they are Viruses.

Even though, I have Moved them to Chest, I still have the Adware on my system (with Google).

Do I now Delete the Viruses using the right click on the Mouse Button to get rid of them from my operating system so everything works like normal???

These are the four viruses I am most worried about; the other two are much older and didn’t seem to affect my operating system at all:

  1. apstpldr.dll[1]htm ; c:1 DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS\user\local S ; Virus Win 32: Adware-gen (Adw)

  2. rasesnet.twp ; C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp ; Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}

  3. iifgetsr.dll c:\windows\system32 ; Win32:Adware-gen

  4. Winusnet.twp ; C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\Temp ; Win32:Trojan gen {Other}

How do I get rid of the Adware so my OS works normally???

I have Acrobat Reader 8 which was said to be bad.

Also, I’m not sure about turning off the System Restore part.

I once had a Virus on a different computer that destroyed everything on my Application, but I used System Restore from a Point a week or two before the virus, and I was able to restore all my Programsand everything worked fine again.

Is this a good option to try that here???

apstpldr.dll and iifgetsr.dll are vundo related.

rasesnet.tmp is a trojan dropper.

Winvsnet.tmp is a trojan-downloader.

I suggest:

SuperAntiSpyware Free, MBAM, or Spyware Terminator (exclude Crawler Toolbar, add on, and ClamAV module)

Can I run those anti-Spyware programs with Avast! 4.8 installed???

Or do I need to uninstall Avast! in order for the anti-Spyware programs to run???

I have heard you don’t want two Virus Scanners running on your PC at the same time.

Sorry, I am kind of new to this stuff. :stuck_out_tongue:

So I guess Avast! 4.8 is not designed to protect against Spyware in particular???

Or, am I mistaken about that.

Yes you can, it is recommended that you run these programs (SAS & MBAM) from safe mode as they are more effective at removing what they might find. avast doesn’t run in safe mode so no issue.

You can still run these other applications from normal mode for routine scans, e.g. when you aren’t chasing a known infection, but I would recommend you ‘pause’ the Standard Shield.
