hi can anybody help i have 3 viruses which avast cant access i cant get them out of my computer they are win32;bravix[drp] windows\system32\dssserf.dll"file windows\system32\tdsslog.dll"file i have tried moving them to chest and also deleting them but avast is telling me it can not access them and also comes up with errors i keep getting the virus alerts everytime i put the internet on i dont know what to if anyone can help i would be really greatfull or do i need to format my computer …
I suggest a boot-time scanning:
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
If infected files are found, it’s safer to send them to Chest instead of deleting them.
This way you can further analysis them.
For infected system files my suggestion is ignore/do nothing and then report here.
good move
Boot scan finds things regular scan does not and vice versa
I’d run a malware bytes anti malware scan to see “the other side of the coin”
you may know this already but for other lurkers
with MBAM update and scan then put a check next to baddies
then
Click REMOVE a backup will be made
post the log back here
then we can decide if a hjt is necessary yet or try something else
I would suggest a HJT eventually
read the stickie at the top of this forum
Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
Clean your temporary files.
Schedule a boot time scanning with avast again with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
followed your instructions and my computer seems to be clean i run both boot scan and full computer scan i also ran spyware doctor which picked up some infections is there anything else you think i can dothanks
can u tell me if avast anti virus scan checks automatically for rootkit virus or do i need a seperate program just run super antispyware and found 19 trojans unclasified and 1 trojan dropper avast didnt pick them up on boot scan or full computer scan im i doing enough
The avast anti-rootkit scan first happens 8 minutes after boot, when doing an on-demand scan, if you select the Standard or Thorough scan sensitivity the anti-rootkit scan is a part of that scan.
Note: depending on your OS win9x, winME, don’t support this rootkit function.
thanks i am running windows vista can u tell me if you have heard of the anti spyware program called spyzooka i am running a free scan to see if it is any good i read a lot about it and it seams to be a good spyware program just wondering if anyone has used it or know ofit before i buy
Do you have the file name/paths? Are they into SuperAntispyware quarantine?
Maybe you could collect them to send to virus (at) avast (dot) com for analysis.
Like David said, it’s inside of avast, automatically run.
I haven’t but I know a friend who might, google.com ;D
You should first do your investigation (into any security program) though it seems you have, before doing any scan, how do you know that it isn’t a rogue program otherwise, that free scan could just be a hook to suck you in.
I use firefox and an add-on called WOT, it maintains a database of sites and their trusworthyness, etc. and a google search for spyzooka shows many of the sites are suspect, so it would also depend on the location you went for this scan.
i went to the origional site i read reviews on it and didnt see anything that gave me concern i was looking to see how much it cost thats when i saw the offer of a free scan before you buy i hope i didny make a bad desicion it told me there was no virus or infections after that scan i ran all my scans again with avast spydoctor and superspyware and they didnt find any virus or infections either so hopefully all is well i will hang off on buying till i find out more thanks for letting me know
It doesn’t seem to have been a problem, but I tend to stick with the main known players rather than something I haven heard of. It is difficult to know who are the main players as some reviews are written by the company itself, without stating an interest or affiliates who also have a vested interest. If you have a trusted forum that you frequent (avast hint), then actual user input is likely to be better. Lookout for users signatures as it will frequently show what programs they are using, hint.
Frequently a free scan when used as a hook will throw up detections which are non-existent and states that you have to purchase the paid option to remove them. It is called giving the user a headache so you can sell the aspirin.
So if that happens it should be a warning, that it might not be a great choice.
cheers i will check everything with a fine tooth comb from now on and leave free scans well alone i just put wot ad on to my fire fox so it might help to warn me in future about sites thanks to everyone who has helped i have learnt more in the past day than i ever knew about viruses malware spyware and all other infections you can pick up and what programs and scans help protect my computer thanks to all again
hi again just had my friend on the phone she was on the net downloading a game when she got a warning that her computer was being infected she didnt get name of virus but her computer crashed and then closed down it wont boot up now and when it is put on it looks like dos is all mumbo jumbo and wont boot up you can even get into format looks like big trouble i cant see anyway of repairing it any ideas
i already tried booting in safe mode i cant even get to last good configuration im beginning to think this was not a virus she got all of a sudden from the game she downloaded im wondering if it been in the computer a bit longer and was doing damage shes not be scanning as often as she should she asked me to show install her antivirus software which is avast i scanned and got loads of viruses put them to chest and showed her how to use spydoctor but she hasnt been doing what she should she thinks it will never happen to her at the end of my patients as she is here now with me and just admitted not doing what she should so maybe this is her price to pay ???
