virut file infector and vrdb

anyone knows if vrdb helps to complete clean from virus and succesfully restore files?? yesterday my antivirus antivir bypassed from virut virus… anyone knows if virut can bypass avast?

The VRDB has to have been running on a system and had a ‘generation’ completed before it could even attempt a repair (if it were on a file covered by the VRDB). So you are already infected before installing avast the VRDB couldn’t do anything.

Even then virut in its more aggressive form, a later variant called win32:Vitro by avast used double encryption to combat repairs by AVs, so I somehow doubt the VRDB even if actually covered the files pre-infection would be able to clean them.

There are some tools (DrWeb CureIt) that were able to clean early virut infections, but there has been much less success with the more virulent variants. It is such a problem that when this infection gets a hold it almost always ends in a reformat and reinstall. Prior to doing this saving what data you can, you shouldn’t save .exe, .htm/l, .scr files as these are targets of this infection. There may well be others, so you should still treat this back-up as suspect and scan it before you put it back on your system.
