Vista doesn't recognize state of Avast

I just downloaded and installed the latest version of Avast Anti-virus, version 4.6.691 as offered by automatic updates. Following the install it asked if I wanted to complete the installation by restarting the system. I confirmed yes but when I was able to sign in following the restart Vista Security Center popped up warning that I no longer had active anti-virus protection. I checked Avast and it indicated it was operational but Vista just won’t recognize that it is actually running. I had to select “Manually Maintain Anti-Virus Protection” to satisfy the Vista security checks.

Now I’m not confident the system is protected, is it?

Good heavens were did you download that relic (4.6.691) from ?

The latest version is 4.8.1296, so I hope you’re experiencing a typo moment ;D

However, I think that if you aren’t having a typo then the version you installed is so old there is likely to be issues, for a start that version wouldn’t have been compatible with Vista so that may be why it doesn’t recognise it.

First things first. I restarted the system again and all is well. Thanks for the response anyway.

Well . . . I assumed the announcements topic would have announced the latest version so I just copied into my message the version number from the most recent update posting. That was my mistake. In reality, the update installed this morning was actually for 4.8.1296 so I am good.

Yes you are good to go.
