Interesting reading from somebody who’s usually so much right…
http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2007/02/drm_in_windows.html
So are you saying he is right or wrong on this one Igor ;D ?
Well I think you have to think for yourself here. DRM is phased out because custoners do not like the incompatibility problems it serves. So why it stayed in Vista is questionable.
When a mother for instance tries to copy CD from a TV on a computer, because she does not want peanut butter in the VCR, she is rewarded by modern industry with an incompatibilty problem, called DRM, and she tries all this in vain or has to go into lenghts, and even then it cannot be done legit. That is why these solutions are good for industry, not good for consumers (users).

Heh, I guess I didn’t write it very clearly.
Well, I don’t really dare to judge M$ intentions or future, but as far as I can tell, Bruce Schneier certainly knows what he’s talking about… so yes, I think he’s right.
The article certainly has an air of truth to it and knowledge, it’s certainly believable going on M$ previous form and the DRM wasn’t what I was thinking about when I posted this in another topic.
The more restrictive and draconian the measures M$ employs in new OSes the more likely people will say, thanks but no thanks. I strongly doubt I will upgrade to Vista and this announcement (a new OS in two years) is just another nail in the coffin of vista for me.
Vista will not be on My PC, i will keep XP. That article just reinforces my thinking
That article Is a very good read, I’m going to try Vista,( I’m getting a free upgrade) as to whether it will STAY on my PC, that’s yet to be seen.
In case any of you wish to read the original article by Peter Gutmann:
Thanks Gene.
