Vista Home Security

I just thought it was worth mentioning that in the past 8 days my laptop has infected by Vista Home Security twice whilst running an up to date version of Avast.
The first time it happened I ran an old version (from last year, which I could not update due to running in safe mode) of Malwarebytes’ Anti Malware and it removed most of the virus (enough to make it stop working entirely) and I then got rid of the rest of it with the updated version. The second time I got rid of it all straight away with MBAM.
I ran a full scan of the computer with Avast the first time before using MBAM and it didn’t pick up a thing.
I only post this as a heads up as if MBAM could detect the current version of the virus last year then surely Avast can do it now, and stop it infecting computers in the first place. Also as this is a particularly nasty virus it really is worth looking in to. As it is not only relatively hard to remove without some technical competance due to blocking programs it deems as threats and rewriting the registry, it also does a pretty convincing job of looking like a real anti virus so could easily scam many people into paying for the “full version”.
As a note I can’t remember the last time I got a virus but it was at least a year ago. However, if anyone can think of any reason why some other fault with my computer could be to blame I would be happy to hear.
Thanks.

Yesterday I had a computer running the latest version of Avast become infected with the Vista Home Security virus. MBAM was able to clean it up after running a reg script to clean up the registry then running RKill. I’m very surprised Avast wasn’t able to detect and stop this virus.

We have suffered with an infected machine due to the Vista Home Security Malware.

Can someone from Avast respond as to why an up to date copy of Avast Internet Security missed it?

It’s been removed now using Anti Malware Bytes.

Fake AV are very hard to be detected as they mimic the legit applications.
Detection won’t be 100%, ever.
Do you know where did you get this infection? I mean, installing software, website, …
