Vista issues?

Hi there,

Installed Vista on a new Dell machine.

It was fine till I installed Vista & Drivers.

  1. To my surprise somewhere along the line, when I went on line to update it, checked My Computer > C > Properties ……the icon of Disk Cleanup disappeared on both drives i.e. primary active & primary?

  2. How can I view all files/folders, seen/hidden as medium sized icons & not tiles?

  3. The display is 1900 X 1200………which is real small since I use an external USB Logitech comfy laser KB & mouse………When I try decreasing the resolution……the desktop icons become distorted & names which are underlined get blurred/darkened…… on reboot I get a windows message displayed that 1900x 1200 is the ideal resolution for this machine so please change……how can I fix this issue……How can I decrease the resolution , without destroying the awesome display /colors/fonts?

  4. My Sony Vaio has great 1680 X1050 display……….easy to read etc…………desktop icons, fonts all have a super display despite that it uses an Intel graphics accelerator vs. this which has a 256 MB graphic card.

  5. How can one view the total Commit Charge/Page file size, on the bottom of task manager as in XP?

Any help to resolve these issues would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Yezinki.

  1. Go to your folder options and check the ‘view hidden files and folders’ button, And there should be a bar at the top of every folder which will change size.

Thanks Husk.

CP> Folder Options> Check show hidden folders…correct?

You mean View?

That I know, isn’t there any single command that changes all folders/files from Tiles to Medium sized icons?

Could some of the senior, smart genius members…like Tech, DavidR, CharleyO & so on care to answer my questions.

Thanks in advance!!

open a folder or explorer window and set the icons to what you want…then press alt to get the menu bar to pop up.

Go to Tools > Folder Options > View > click Apply to folders.

Sorry I don’t use Vista.

Sorry DavidR to have bugged you I should have realized.

Regards!

Could Avast have blocked the disk clean up icon?

Apply to Folders is dim/unhighlighted unlike Reset Folders??

Screen shots!

Sorry… Apply to All Folders…unhighlighted.

It is if you go to Control Panel > Folder Options to change it… but if you open a Windows Explorer window/Folder and change the icons to whatever you want with the slider…then go to the Tools menu like I said… It shouldn’t be unhilighted.

Try the solutions on this page for the disk cleanup button missing http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistaprograms/thread/08000b3a-7ea4-42f8-8d84-070a2a384f8e/

This is what I get if i go by what you are suggesting.

Try it with a regular folder… Not the My computer icon

Thanks atleast 1 out of 5 solved…Recycle Bin >properties > custom size was unchecked…when checked now has appeared.

Another shot.

Glad that one’s fixed. Now try what I said on a regular folder and not a system folder like My Computer.

Thanks once again you solved 2 out of 5 issues…regular folder did the job.

Yezinki.

You’re welcome
