Visual Basic 6 Media Player problem

In Visual Basic 6 I attempt to add a Windows Media Player control (wmp.dll) to a form.

With Avast (free) running, the VB Programming IDE immediately crashes.

If I uninstall Avast & simply use Windows Defender, it works as expected.

I’d appreciate any help.

Robert

Just wanted to add that I tried modifying the Avast set up to “Minimal Protection” and this still happens.
Incidentally if I get no help here how do I directly contact Avast support?
Thank you.

Unfortunately, there’s no additional support (Email/Chat/Phone) for Avast Free.

“Unfortunately, there’s no additional support (Email/Chat/Phone) for Avast Free.”

I understand why, but I am unlikely to buy the full product (which I did for several years) when I know there is a problem.

You can submit a bug report in “About Avast”. (Add a link to this thread)

Thank you, I have submitted the bug report.

Robert

You’re welcome.

What if you disable all shields, temporarily, does it still happen?
Is there (or can you create) a dump of the crashed IDE?

Hi Igor,
Sorry, I missed your question.
Yes it still occurs if I disable all shields.
I was unable to attach the dump file as .dmp files are not permitted, & it was too big.

Robert

You can upload your dump(s) here: ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming/
Pick a unique name (and post it here), so the devs can find it. Thanks

I uploaded the dmp file with the name:
“VB6 Media Player problem.dmp”

Thank you,

Robert

For future reference, the issue was caused by running VB6 in Windows XP compatibility mode which loaded Windows 10 wmp.dll that attempted to run Avast AMSI framework (still in Windows XP compatibility mode). Avast Antivirus is no longer able to run under Windows XP which includes Windows XP compatibility mode.

Hi,
Thank you. I really appreciate the time you took sorting this problem out.
I have now purchased Avast Premium Security.

Robert
