Voice for virus database update stopped working

I haven’t touched the settings but for few weeks now no more voiceovers for updates or threats found etc. Avast free! 2014.9.0.2021. Any assistance please.

First update avast to the latest version.

Hi… I’m holding back from updating to 2015.10.x in case of any issues. Perhaps the next non-beta update.

The voice disappearing is not unique to 2014.9.x - it’s happened in previous versions.

I tried repairing, no luck. Could do a fresh install. Otherwise I’m not too fussed but it was a nice non-annoying feature to have.

Well, in 2015.10.0.2209 a lot of issues have been fixed.
I (and many others) have tested it (and still are), and so far there are no major issues with it.

avast has removed the voice in version 2015.x.x.x
Could be by doing so it also was removed from prior versions, or made it not working anymore.

If the voice on your system stopped working with version prior to 2014 also…
I would say there is something on your system that is causing it.

Please provide more information.
What os/sp ?
Is (or was there) any other av (or security software) installed ?
Are you using a "system/registry cleaning tool ?

Vista SP2. Windows Firewall. WinPatrol free version. Zemana Antilogger free. That’s all which run on startup. Run various free scanners such as MBAM and SAS every month or so.
I use CCleaner but don’t clean the registry.

Many have stated their dissatisfaction with the elimination of the VOICE Notification.
Unfortunately, there has been no change in that direction by Avast
Just saying!!

There is a valid reason for not receiving the voice notification:

Sorry Bob, but the streaming updates were never considered to be the same as the auto VPS updates and had never had a audio visual notification.

We are still seeing people that aren’t getting the VPS updates, but they are getting the streaming updates - this is clearly an error in the program - one that is exacerbated by the fact that avast no longer announces the VPS auto update.

Granted, they aren’t the same thing but there is a correlation between the two.
Also granted that there should be a warning system if VPS updates don’t happen.

There should be an announcement that the VPS has updated.

Decided to update to 2015.10.0.2208 and I was given a free trial of 20 days to AIS which I accepted. No issues on upgrading! For the first day I recall getting (a) voice message(s) with the VPS updates but after that no more voice messages. However when a scan is completed I get a voice message to confirm this. Hmmm?

I suggest you delete avast completely (use the uninstall tool also) and install the latest version:

Why isn’t the released version (non-beta) good enough? 10.0.2208? When is the next non-beta due for release? I like to be on the safe side!

When is the next non-beta due for release?
very soon .....

In addition to the avast uninstall tool isn’t there an unofficial further cleaning tool to clear out further remnants IIRC?

There is already a RC

^ will this RC bring back the voices on VPS update? What’s difference between a RC and official website release?

^ thanks! Sorry to be a pain but is it possible to download a version of avast! free to have it speak when virus database is updating? I really like the voice notifications!

Nope.
