Well, I’ve searched the forum and knowledgebase and can’t seem to find anything pertinent.
After installing the 5 suite, my SonicWall VPNs don’t work. I’ve attempted to place the destination IPs in the “Friends” list, and put the application’s executables in the applications rules list. Still, no-go. If I disable the avast firewall, the connection gets established quickly. Re-enabling the firewall results in the connection perperually trying and failing.
By the way: I’m running XP-Pro and the SonicWall Global VPN client.
The only way I’ve been able to work is to disable the Avast firewall… Sort of defeats the purpose…

I’ve had a support ticket open for quite a while now. Nobody seems to be able to give me any guidance. I’m beginning to suspect that Alwil may have gone the way of Symantec… May be time for a different solution… Bummer…
Well…
Looks like I was correct. There is no “fix”, per se, for the firewall. It seems that certain adjustments just aren’t possible at this time.
Here’s what I got through the support department.
thank you for the details - this issue will be analyzed by our software development department. Until the fix is available, please uninstall avast! firewall completely using the procedure below or disable it temporary when using VPN.
To uninstall avast! firewall completely:
open avast! User Interface then click Settings
navigate to Troubleshooting then disable avast! self-defense (clear the box “Enable avast! self-defense module”)
click OK to proceed then close avast! User Interface
navigate to Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs (MS Windows 2000 and XP) or Programs and Features (MS Windows Vista and 7)
select avast! Internet Security then click Change/Remove (MS Windows 2000 and XP) or Uninstall/Change (MS Windows Vista and 7)
in avast! Internet Security Setup window, select Change then click Next
disable Firewall in the right pane the click Next
reboot your computer
open avast! User Interface then click Settings
navigate to Status Bar then disable firewall monitoring (clear the box “Firewall”)
click OK to proceed
click Settings then re-enable avast! self-defense (see above)
click OK to proceed then close avast! User Interface
exactly that’s why i stick with comodo fw - much more flexible, right now.
but i’m shure, as ever, avast will work on it. sometimes.
will use ais, when fw will be more advanced and configurable.

Hi, there are several new fixes in the latest beta version of the AIS for this VNP problem. According to my tests, it should work without problems now.
