The VPS 080708-0 is reporting a false positive
virus… Win32: Trojan-gen (Other)… for a file
that has been used by programmers since
December 22nd, 2006.
The file name is RapidQ32.lib and it’s used
to compile GUI type program (as opposed
to CONSOLE type programs).
I can provide a copy of the RapidQ32.lib,
if need, be to prove that there is indeed
NO virus within it.
This false positive will not only affect
thousands of programmers but also
thousands of end users of the Windows
applications that were created with this file.
Please. Can this be fix immediately before
it’s too late???
Thank You In Advance.
David
Yes, please pack the file into a password-protected ZIP or RAR and send it to virus@avast.com, together with the password (and with something like “False alarm” in subject).
Thanks.
Unfortunately Yahoo will not allow me to attach,
what it perceives as, a virus (even if it’s within
an encrypted password protected .zip file).
So I uploaded the .zip file to my website and
then sent an email, with the details and a link to
the .zip file, to the address that you provided.
I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to attach it to an
email and I hope this alternative way will suffice.
Quick question: How will I know the outcome?
David
You can upload them to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming (please, note that you won’t have READ access to the ftp server, just write - so you won’t even be able to see what you’ve just uploaded).
Send an email explaining you’ve sent the files by ftp
Ok. I just uploaded the .zip file to the ftp site.
And resent the email with it’s new location.
Thanks.
Still wondering… how will I know the outcome?
David
David, they usually do not automatic answer this. They ‘answer’ updating the virus database and correcting the false positive. If you have add the file to avast Chest you can right click it and scan it later to see if the detection was corrected with new virus databases releases.
From, not only myself but, all the RapidQ programmers
(and their end users who use their applications)…
Thank You… to those who helped to resolve the
false positive for the library file and to those
who replied to this thread to let me know how
to go about reporting it properly.
Avast is by far…
Thee #1 Anti-Virus Software!
