VPS 090402-0

I have avast! 4 Pro Edition running till 1 Aug 09. There was a red shield issue you kindly dealt with last December. We have returned from a weeks holiday and booted up the computer to find the red shield again and the Windows Security Center message saying:

‘avast! Antivirus 4.8.1335 (VPS 090402-0) reports that it might be out of date’…. Etc. plus the red shield is there again.

I would be grateful if you would let me know:

  • that I’m still secure to use the internet

  • how to get rid of the red shield

  • what has happened to produce the red shield and warning message when I’ve still month left on avast 4…

Thanks very much

Hi Igor!

Your Avast! just seems to need the actual updates…

Connect to the internet → rightclick the Avast-Symbol in the Taskbar → Update (probably i has an other name…)–> iAVS Update

yours
onlysomeone

I would set your virus database to automatic update also…

Thanks for your advice… several times I’ve gone into Admin taken off Windows Management & Security and restarted Automatic, but couldn’t delete wbem/repository… said ‘in use…’ … I also right-clicked Avast for IAVS Update yesterday - the red shield went away but this morning I’ve just booted up and it’s there again with the same warning as before… please help… IS >:(

This may be way out in left field but have you checked the system date/time?

Yes - system date/timem is dead on - no problems with that…

… one small point - when I rightclick over avast and fo iavs update, nothing seems to happen; no eggtimer and message to say starting or finishing - how do I know it HAS updated?

Maybe try a manual download of the VPS? http://www.avast.com/eng/updates.html

Thanks,
Will try it now… just for your info, stopped Win Management and Security Center, set to Automatic, successfully deleted wbem/repository and rebooted, but the red shiled is still there… aarrgghh!

Just did download as requested…
Can’t install VPS. Please report following error codes:

Vers. 4.8.1335
SI: 0x00000002
ST: 0xFFFFFFFF
LE: 0x00000000

Your move chaps!

Try a clean reinstall, this may bump start the WSC.

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

If you still get the AAVM/RPC error try this, Program Settings (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Troubleshooting, Delay loading of avast! services after other system services.

… I’ve tried 1 and 2 several times but the avast uninstall does NOT run either in normal or safe mode… next move please!!!

Why doesn’t it run in safe mode (avast doesn’t run in safe mode, so shouldn’t get in the way), what errors are displayed ?
