I see the sticky re modifying the value to a larger value, but do not understand what I need to do to set these values. Program is now registered, has license key inserted, now presents invalid argument when double-clicked and only option is to close.
How to fix?
EDIT: Nevermind, fixed the value to suggested in terminal, database downloaded now shows, and a scan is currently running.
Been awhile since I used avast! for linux, had not run terminal for awhile, was aware of kernel limitation, but had never fixed. Sorry to say, I went to Bitdefender for unices, which worked on another Ubuntu installation I had a couple of years ago.
Solution was spot on, but what are the other lines for in the same post, and are they needed?
It happens to everyone on Ubuntu, there’s a fix that requires changing the kernel (sticky topic in this forum) I’ve got another thread asking for an official fix.
Official fix will probably happen when this old avast version is upgraded, hopefully sometime in the near future. If I choose Suspend, then the terminal does not need to be run to update the size limitation. If I choose Restart, then the whole process must be done once more.
I mean, c’mon, the Avast! icon predates to version 4!
Linux is useful for checking out newer noobie member links to known malicious sites (urls) and seeing if the file downloaded is indeed malicious, provided Avast! has a signature for it. In any case, checking the file with a virus scanner is possible this way, so…
