Vps update for: Avast 4.8.1368

Hi, when I go to my village, the internet connection is very slow and on a dial-up.

I have Avast 4.8.1368 installed in my system there. Since I go there never before 5-6 months,the Avast vps (definitions) need to be updated. It’s is almost impossble to update the vps through it’s in-bulit updater as it’s so slow. Hence I want to carry the vps updates (as .exe) in my external drive. Last time I downloaded the updates file from http://www.avast.com/download-update but the files did not execute (neither avast! 5 VPS update nor avast! 4 VPS update).

Since,I dont want to upgrade to Avast version 5 (as my old system may not be compatible to versions over Avast 4.8.1368) , I was wondering how to update the vps?

Also, in the site, wanted to know if the avast! 4 VPS update (it mentions version 4.8.0 NOT 4.8.1368) will be compatible for version 4.8.1368? Or is it the avast! 5 VPS update which will be compatible for Avast 4.8.1368.

I tried both the last time, but both of them didn’t work for 4.8.1368. Please suggest.

4 VPS update is of course for the 4X series of avast .......anything else would be strange when there is a 5 VPS update http://www.avast.com/download-update

Well, what’s confusing is the update site mentions version 4.8.0 specifically- as least that’s what it seems with the zero after 4.8.0 !

So…will it still be a compatible vps update for Avast 4.8.1368?

Guys, the 4.8.1368 vps update is version 4: 4.8.0, in the Avast vps definitions page, afterall :stuck_out_tongue:

However, this file only is updated to 1/4/2010. It should be updated by Alwil more frequently, but seen that this is not the case, does anyone know where to find a usable VPS update file for Avast! 4.8.1368?

does not the auto/manuell update work ?

why not install avast 5 ?..support for avast 4.x will end this year
