i ma using avast 4.8 home edition build jul2008(4.8.1229)
i downloaded vps update from avast on 5/6/2009 it was released a day ago
when i tried to install it avast info msg said that ur vps is already upto-date but when i try to download IAVS update it stats updating.
is there any difference between vps update and ivas update?
vps databse was compiled on 07/31/08.

In my opinion the vps update and the iavs update are the same…
But what you should do is to make a program-update as your version is a bit outdated. (rightclick the avast-symbol in the taskbar → update → program update) ((names can be different))

Sounds like Syedaliqaseem already tried that?
Maybe a manual download of the update from the website would work, or maybe this is an issue of a previous A/V or a corrupt Avast installation?
Maybe a repair might work?

I uninstalled avast then again installed it and then updated it manually from avast website,this solved my problem, thanks SCYTHE
