There are issues in avast 6 that simply aren’t going to get resolved, at the very least you need to get avast 7, but preferably avast 8.

I don’t know where you are downloading the avast 6 version or the VPS update from ?
There are no old VPS database versions, only current ones, but there are two versions, one for avast 4.8 and another which is for avast 5 through avast 8.

  • Manual update of VPS:
  • avast! Virus Definitions Update - Manual Download VPS Update (virus definitions, vpsupd.exe, approx 83.7 MB). - Save the file to your hard disk, locate where you saved it and double click it and that should carry out the virus definitions update.

Your problem may well be that you are getting avast report the VPS is out of date, because the avast 6 installation file is so old. Incremental updates won’t cater for the gap between when that avast 6 installation file had its database included. Last release version 6 was 2011-11-28. So the database in that is almost 18 months old.
