I have the ADMN installed on a server that bridges 2 different networks. That I’ll call A and B.
The ADNM sees client PCs on both networks and has successfully rolled out the avast client to machines on both networks.
On network A the clients PCs receive updated VPS definitions without any problem on network B they
don’t. They return an error 0x20000004. Which I understand is something to do with no proxy.
The infamous 0x20000004 error…
Could be a lot of things.
Generally, temporary glitches.
0x20000004 error is a “proxy down” error, i.e., server unreachable (or, in other words, “cannot connect to the updating server”). Is there any other Firewall installed on the machine besides Windows own firewall? Have you had any previous anti-virus program installed on this computer before installing avast? The last way is check your hosts file to see if there are any entries that could be blocking avast’s update servers. A blank “default” configuration of the windows hosts file should basically have only one entry (127.0.0.1 localhost).
The problem is now resolved. It gave the error because the server is connected to 2 different subnets and the clients on 1 of the networks where trying to resolve the wrong servers NIC card which they cant see.
