VRDB attack

What does it mean when VRDB says there has been an attack? A message pops up and says “On-Access Scanner Message. Attack from -----”
My VRDB was also turned off when this happened.

What do you mean?
VRDB is ‘virus recovery database’ and can’t ‘alert’ or send a pop-up message…
Maybe you’re talking about the residents in avast and then it will be the Standart Shield provider (on-acess scanner).
Can you post the name of the file and its path and the name of the virus (attack)?
Can you post a screnshot of the message?
Which is your operational system, firewall and browser?

Oh, welcome to avast 8)

I have XP SP2 Firewall and Firefox 1.5.0.1. The messages disappear real fast. Where can I get info on Resident Protection? (I don’t know what Network, Standard or Web Shield mean, etc.) Oh, I found it in the Help file. Thanks.

What Packers do you recommend to be extracted while scanning?

If you’re seeing popups that disappear relatively quickly (and, of course, if they really are from avast), I’d guess what you’re seeing is update notifications. Any kind of warning or alert normally stays on-screen until you at least acknowledge it, and (depending on the kind of alert) choose what to do.

Are you using the Home version?
Only in Professional you can manage them… On Standard Shield I’ll let ONLY the default ones. In on-demand scanning, I’ll choose all of them

The popups are in the lower right corner and start out with something like “LLASLLLLL” and then an IP #. I have Pro edition. I don’t know if the messages have anything to do with the P2P I’m running.

Is it this one? http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=19794.0;topicseen
I mean, an icon like this one? I can’t imagine other one that shows an IP on it…
