I have set VRDB to only run when a screen saver is running so that I can choose when to run it but today I noticed it had run itself although no screen saver was running. What could have caused this?
How did you discover it had run itself (you saw the ‘i’ icon rotate or something else) ?
If you want to choose when to run it and you don’t have any screen-saver set, it shouldn’t run. That is how mine is set and I don’t have any problem it doesn’t run until I select Generate Now.
I can only assume that you set it to run when idle and not when the screen-saver is running.
Thats the thing I didnt set it to run unless there was a screen saver on which there wasnt thats why I dont understand it doing this its never happened before, could it be an update has altered something (although that wouldn’t explain why the options where set to screen saver mode)
Right click the desktop area.
Properties or Customize.
Screen Saver settings.
Choose avast screensaver. Than click on Settings button.
Choose the screensaver that will run while avast is scanning.
I didnt know about that feature until now thanks mate, but I’m still no closer to finding why it ran even with no screen saver, oh well I will leave it for now as no harm has been done but in the meantime if someone can let Alwil team know then they could quickly check its nothing in their programming
Tech, the whole point is that sanctuary24 doesn’t want the VRDB to run automatically. He doesn’t use a screen-saver in windows properties, screen-saver, it is set to None and the VRDB is set to Generate VRDB only when screen-saver is running.
So in theory it should ‘never’ run automatically as the screen-saver should never run, that is how my settings are because I want to run the VRDB manually as a part of my regular system maintenance. This works fine for me and the VRDB has never run automatically on these settings, so I can’t understand why this happened to sanctuary24.
I personally don’t want to set it to Disable VRDB Generation as I mentioned some time before I don’t know how the repair function would work if you have the VRDB disabled or rather the generation of the database.
from what I read if you disable it then it wont keep a database which in turn means you cant repair those files it would normally cover in the database, this would limit your options to move to chest or delete
Thanks for your help with this guys as I’m just as confused as to why this has happened as well and I double checked with people who use the computer at other times and they dont even know how to activate it (ie not computer literate) or put a screen saver on
never really bothered, theres always someone on it or its switched off plus people in my house turn the switches off so if their mind was elsewhere they would think the computer was off and they turn it off at the wall, not good
Because that won’t achieve sanctuary24’s aim for the VRDB not to run automatically.
A screen-saver, blank or otherwise would be running, enabling the VRDB to run if set to ‘Generate VRDB only when screen-saver is running’ would allow for auto generation.
