VRDB i Ball lost again from taskbar

This i ball has disapeared from the taskbar. I also note that the VRDS hasnt updated for a week, therefore I presume it isnt working. This happened before but Igar helped me to resolve by unchecking ‘hide inactive icons’ in taskbar properties. Now what is the problem I wonder? Any suggestions?

Hi angie,

Two things come to mind – firstly, if you haven’t played with the ini file, the default period between VRDB updates is 3 weeks. So obviously a week with no sign of activity is quite normal.

Any chance you (maybe accidently) “merged” it with the main icon? There’s an option to do that – right-click the main icon and see if there’s a VRDB entry in the menu there. If that’s the case, there’s also an option to split it back out to a separate icon.

Keep in mind that even if they’re merged, the VRDB icon will still appear separately temporarily while it’s actively working on generating a fresh VRDB, similar to the way you get a temporary mail-checking icon.

Best,
Mike

More information about the avast4.ini file you can see here.

Wellcome to forums ;D

Thanks for your input, but I have checked and I havent merged the two balls, nor altered the .ini file (well not to my knowledge!!). The last update was 8th mar, so it is less than three weeks. Perhaps I should wait and see what hapeens after three weeks but surely it should be showing in the taskbar all the time? Or should I perhaps reinstall everything?

There were a number of similar reports (disappearing VRDB icon)… and it always showed up that the user was running WinXP and had the taskbar option “Hide inactive icons” turned on… can it be the case?

Sorry - I have got the box unchecked. ( I did speak to you a while ago about this and it WAS checked then. When unchecked, it returned but has now disappeared again)
