VRDB

Hi

I now have Avast Pro running and did my first scan (all clean) my question is do i use VRDB and will it use much system resources ?

Thanks Cindy

Hi Cindy!

The VRDB only has to be generated sometimes… its not running constantly so it isn’t resource-hungry
but when it is generated it can slow down your system a bit… but that isn’t necessarily long or noticeable…

which OS do you use?
if you use vista the automatic generation while the screensaver doesn’t work properly - you should manually start the generation or set it to “generate when the computer is idle”.

Cindy

thank you for posting your whole system, allthough i don’t really need it ;D

but i think that you are not going to have any problems with Avast! or the VRDB according to the computers power.

i would recommend start the generation once manually and then let it generate automatically

if there are any more questions (or i didn’t articulate right) feel free to ask again

But i am a bit puzzled as when i mouse over the Avast main icon it shows 8 providers only 7 running ? (see 2nd pic)

Cindy

Hi Cindy

This is normal.
The ‘Provider’ for ‘Outlook/Exchange’ (not Outlook Express which uses the ‘Internet Mail’ Provider) is a plug-in, so it loads only with MS Outlook.

Right-click on the Avast main icon > click "On-Access Protection Control’.
You may have to click ‘Details… >>’ if the box doesn’t look something like the one in the attached shot.
If Outlook is not running, the Outlook/Exchange Provider should say ‘The Provider is waiting for a subsystem to start’.
The other 7 (6 with avast! Home) should say ‘The Provider is currently running

Hi Vladimyr

Cindy

Looks normal. Scroll down the list. All should be running except ‘Outlook/Exchange’.

Also with avast! Pro, If you open Internet Explorer, a ‘Script Blocker’ splash should briefly appear.

Yes its the same as yours ;D

Thanks Vladimyr
