I recently added WOT (web of trust) to IE9. Avast browser scan tells me that it has a bad reputation. I would prefer to keep it. Any advice?
Probably doesn’t help that you’re using IE 9 :o you should update to IE 11
Depends ofcourse on the OS if the OP can do that or not.
Besides that, WOT is based on user ratings.
And over 99.99% of the users have no clue about things.
I believe IE 9 will only install on Vista and above so IE 11 will be the current version that should be installed, only up to IE 8 can be installed on XP.
Thanks for your replies, guys. I am using Vista. My main browser is Pale Moon on which I have been running WOT for ages. Avast has only picked this up since I installed it on IE9.
You are right. Browser Cleanup is detecting WOT as add-on with bad reputation. I am using IE11 (Windows 7).
BTW,rating system in BC is total crap.
Hi abruptum.
I often think WOT, webutation and even Adguard Website Security Report or BrightCloud IP reputation services are not always treated in a fair way, you should always consider what these services really are and the limits of what they try to offer. They are are just nothing but mere guides on Interweb’s high- and bylanes.
It is just not true and as a silver contibutor (under another nick) I should know. They state
In order to keep ratings more reliable, the system tracks each user’s rating behavior before deciding how much it trusts the user. WOT applies sophisticated algorithms to detect and eliminate any manipulation of reputation.Quote from how WOT rankings work. With any contradictions in your rating report you will fall through grand time, believe me!
I am fine on WOT and use it but with discrimination. I know a number of contributors there that are high standard, very reliable, well informed sources, also the third party web resources used are reliable, I shun reports based on advertising some site or service. I know it is is partly based on user ratings. In combination with DrWeb URL scan, webutation or BitDefender’s TrafficLight and Avast Online Security off-course , where these services coincide in their outcome I won’t go without a pre-scan or establishing my destination is safe.

I appreciate your comments re: WOT but how is it that browser Cleanup has never picked this up on Pale Moon, only on IE9?
Because it works as a BHO in IE explorer, http://www.shouldiremoveit.com/WOT-for-Internet-Explorer-12161-program.aspx
42% of users remove wot.dll for that reason. Also consider: http://www.file.net/process/wot.dll.html

Thanks a lot for your very informative reply.
WOT is not detected anymore, but it looks like something is wrong with IE rating. Maybe problems with database or something.
Everything is fine with rating of add-ons in Firefox.
Edit:
It is fixed.
