w32.brontok

Hi all,

i have a new virus in my computer and in folder mypicture there is about.brontok.htm
the virus is local(Indonesia) virus named brontok but this time avast not detected the virus.

help help…

thanks,
johnny

How was it detected and what makes you think it is the Brontok virus ?
What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!) ?

If you are not getting a virus warning that and you believe it is a new, undetected virus, then if you can zip and password protect (‘virus’, will do) the suspect file and send it to virus @ avast.com (no spaces), or send from the chest and send it from there.

Give a brief outline of the problem (possibly a link to this thread), the fact that you believe it to be a either a new, undetected virus or false positive and include the password in the body of the email. Some info on the avast version and VPS number (see about avast {right click avast icon}) will also help.

You could also check the offending/suspect file at: Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. You can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.
Or VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner

i know well brontok, there about.brontok.html on my picture folder.

i try to scan the exe file using norton and it was detected as brontok@mm

i will send the suspect file to virus@avast.com

thanks.

i already send to virus@avast.com

i scan the suspected file on http://virusscan.jotti.org/ avast not detected as virus.

thanks

It is not so much did avast detect it, as you have already said it didn’t, but how many other AVs did detect it.

i scan the suspected file on http://virusscan.jotti.org/ avast not detected as virus.

sorry i mean avast can not detect brontok.

I understand that avast isn’t detecting this variant but are any other AVs on the Jotti or VirusTotal scan detecting it as a brontok variant ?
If so what are they reporting ?

i just hope avast can solve this quickly.
thanks david

Welcome to the forums, spi.

In the above quote from you, you mention scanning with Norton. If you have both Norton and Avast on your computer, this may be why you have this problem. Having 2 resident av scanners will cause conflicts between both and neither av service will protect your computer as good as either one alone. Can you confirm that you have both Norton and Avast operating on your computer?

i used norton in others pc.

and avast antivirus is on my notebook

Are you still using NAV? :frowning: :-\ :-*
Why don’t you upgrade to avast in all of them? ;D

Today VPS 0609-3 added Win32:Brontok-YBG [Wrm]. I hope that solve your problem, and thanks for submitting.

p/s: I wonder what is YBG means? ???

NAV is my customers antivirus.

I used avast dude.

thanks shino. YBG ???

VPS 0609-3 can not solve my customers problem, why avast can not detect brontok new version?

i already submit to virus@avast.com
i hope it can be solve in this weeks

thanks.

Maybe we must ask better recognition, file submition, updates scheduling for Alwil team ;D

The problem already solved by using VPS 0611-0. I wish the alwil team will give faster response about new virus/worm threads in the future ;D

Thanks
