Please Help us to Help you In order to help fully we need more information…

  • What OS are you using?
  • What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!)
  • What was the filename, where was it found
    example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)?
  • What actions have you taken to try and resolve the problem?

Trojans generally can’t be repaired (either by the VRDB or avast virus cleaner), because the entire content of the file is malware, so it is either move to chest or delete, move to the chest being the best option (first do no harm). When a file is in the chest it can’t do any harm and you can investigate the infected warning.

Files in use generally can’t be moved, deleted or repaired because they are protected by windows.

If you have XP you can schedule a boot time scan from within avast!

Hello

I’m using win 2000 pro, the version is 0538-4, the infected file is C:\WINNT\system32\lpxpkd.exe.
We are a campany and we have the license for avast pro.
I didn’t take any action to repare that apart from avast.

Sorry but what is putting the file in the chest??

OK, I believe you should also be able to schedule a boot time scan from within avast!

Open the avast Enhanced User Interface as if you were going to run a manual scan and in the Menu select Schedule boot-time scan.

It’s send a file to Quarentine.
This option appears when a virus is found (on-demand and on-access scanning pop-up a virus message).
File (virus) is safe in Chest, can go out from there or harm your system.
You can run boot time scanning like David said (look, Chest is not available there, you can only move/delete files at boot time).

Hi ECA,

Here you find a good description of this “embedded” trojan downloader:

Here also the best advice is into the chest or in their words: “it has to be jailed”.
