Hi, suddenly my W8.1 start screen is showing all sorts of tiles with a download arrow.
Rumour has it that Avast! Antivirus may be responsible for this.
http://www.askvg.com/fix-small-download-arrow-icon-showing-on-start-screen-tiles-in-windows-8-1/
Is the Avast!-team aware of this?
I wonder if it is the update of windows 8.1 breaking the apps ? As I had Avast 2014 on my system prior to the update and everything was OK…
After my first start in 8.1 3 or 4 apps were broken and I had to re-install them … Skype was one along with freebooks and fresh paint there was another but I cannot recall which one it was
EDIT: I knew I had seen a write up on this about release time http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/10/17/windows_81_update_what_to_know/

I’m also not too certain of any involvement by Avast!
I solved the matter by uninstalling the respective Apps and re-installing them again.
Tedious, but it helped.
And yes, possibly it’s rather got to do with Windows Update or the SkyDrive App-sync.

I had that happen first day I upgraded to Windows 8.1, at first the apps looked fine when it first started up, then I installed Avast 2014 Final release, restarted, came back with a bunch of Down arrows on the apps, (Still have them on Admin account, haven’t bothered fixing those yet) as i’m usually in my Limited User account to do everything
Prior to installing 8.1 I removed Avast 9.0 beta RC3 the following way
Uninstall thru Add/Remove Programs on 8.0
Restart to safe mode
ran aswclear
restart to regular mode
used rezors uninstall utility
Proceeded with 8.1 upgrade, Got updated video drivers in, Avast 2014 final, (restart), down arrows on every Metro UI app, Windows updates, down arrows remained, uninstalled Megatube, Down arrows went away, reinstalled Megatube, down arrows returned briefly, fixed by excluding Megatube in Deepscreen with Avast, then haven’t had down arrow issue since
Reinstalling the Apps did fix it
Happens I heard when app doesn’t sync right or Avast blocks an app with Deepscreen, did that for me on MegaTube) once I removed Megatube and reinstalled it, all the down arrows went away

Hi,
I tried the new beta version… it works now… I can now install apps…
to delete the download cursor:
uninstall the app, and reinstall it at the Store… go to “your app” then install it again…
Thanks a lot

Your welcome, it’s not a beta version though it’s a stable release
