Firefox 3 Download Day 2008
How many browser downloads within 24 hours.?

I like the interactive map very neat.

What I would like to see are the extensions/add-ons that work with 3.0 as that will be my prerequisite to installing 3.0 all my crucial add-ons must work.

Fully agree. Now add-ons, No Update for me.

Hi bob3160,

Nighty tester tools is the update to make all your favorite add-ons work, enforce them and restart FF, as easy as that. Get it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/nl/firefox/addon/6543
It even works for me in my Minefield pre release FF version for testers,

question damian...when the final ff3 is released- do you have to uninstall these extensions that were forced to work and reinstall then or what ??? ;)

If you check the link given by polonus, read the comments, one answers your question.

Beoordelingen The main flaw is once you override add-on computability, you can't bring it back. There is no un-do, not even if you uninstall this extension.

Hi Dan,

That process (compatibility check) is part of the new installation process of the FF release, so wait for that to happen on Download Day. For now to stay part of the action always ask the console to update to the latest versions of the extensions, that is still fiunctional. But for some essential add-ons that have not yet made the transition to the 3.0 RC1 version, like DrWeb’s av link checker plug-in, the Nightly Tester Tools can come in handy always. Support for this add-on can be found at the developer site of Nightly Tester Tools: http://www.oxymoronical.com/web/firefox/nightly
As a tester with the Minefield latest nightly builds I cannot do without the Nightly Tester Tools, but it is quite reassuring that the two most essential add-ons for me (ABP and NoScript are two of the first to make the transition to even the latest developers’version),

Damian

I feel this bit artificial and yet I find this is still an interesting attempt and a kind of fun. ;D

I don’t recommend update, either. There are ways to use FF2 and FF3 side by side. Here is a detailed instruction. In my case, I am using Firefox Portable, whose app folder is replaced by the unofficial RC2 build in my environment. I am doing this “update” since beta versions and haven’t come across a problem. At the moment, you can RC1 version at Potable Apps. This is bit rough but putting the copy of your profile folder to “FirefoxPortable\Data” folder and see how things turn out. You can use the about:config tweak from the above link.

about:config = Right-click and select New > Boolean - extensions.checkCompatibility and set to false

I haven’t dared to use nightly versions and, luckily to me, most of my add-ons are working without Nightly Tester Tools. I guess I am lazy but, as polonus says, with Adblock Plus and NoScript, or, two basic security add-ons being compatible, I wouldn’t mind possible glitches with other add-ons.

The times I use Firefox are about as rare as snowfall in Hell. I used to be the worlds biggest fan of Firefox & disliked Opera, but now I’m gung-ho Opera! So…

I might uninstall Firefox on Download Day! Long live Opera!

All those that don’t have Opera should download Opera on Download Day!!!

Here is one who won’t be jumping on that Opera day if it ever comes.

I have tried it a few times and it lasted less than a day each time I just didn’t like it.

I haven’t tried the latest opera incarnation, I tend not to try things unless I have a need, e.g. there is something wrong with what I have. I have been happy with firefox and I rarely need to slip into Avant browser (IE Clone) as my secondary browser.

DavidR,

I used to be like you.

I used to be the worlds biggest fan of Firefox & disliked Opera

But I got tired of FF’s “memory leakage” and slow startup, so I decided to use Opera till FF was fixed, but Opera grew on me, I haven’t looked back.

Use whatever pleases you.

The majority of popular FF3 addons are now RC1 compatible, the memory leak problems of FF2 have also been addressed.
