i like version 4 and want to keep it rather than renewing to version 5 now that it has been a year and i need to register again.
can i just register version 4 with out upgrading to version 5 if so how?
if i can stay with version 4 will the automatic downloads continue to work in the older version?

you can probably register V4 for another year…as to how long it will be supported, I would say may be a year…maximum…meaning updates won’t be delivered anymore at some point. This must be confirmed by someone from Avast

They will do updates for Avast 4 until December 31, 2010. But after that, it is unknown if version 4 will be supported or not.

Just the December 31, 2010 guaranteed 4.8 support date. At least that is what I was told on the forum a few months ago. (For Confirmation.) Not sure about 4.8 after January 1, 2011. I had a lot of problems with the first releases of 5.0. Freezing, multiple restarts. But that was back when it first came out. The latest build is very good and I would recommend it over 4.8. Just interested, what are your reasons for wanting to stay with 4.8? If you do, you will have guaranteed updates until the end of the year.
