Warning: a2 1.6.5 generates lot of false positives

As I know actskin4.ocx is part of avast; LimeWire also does not contains any spyware/adware, so after update and first scan look carefully what objects are suspicious and marked to remove. I agree, Kazaa and grotsker warnings seems to be real… so they were removed.

It looks like an old false positive (Wich had supposedly been fixed) has come back to hound them, avast! and any other
program that used uses actskin4.ocx

Just goes to prove that if your program (a-squared) has a problem, fix it righ the first time
or it will come back to bite you in the asquared ;D

They claims they have fixed it after my post

I think the lesson here is don’t take anything at face value or rather don’t just click delete without checking what will be deleted.

However, in this case most people wouldn’t know that actskin4.ocx was used for the skins in avast or other programs using skins.

I usually run scans directly after any update, that way if there is an influx of detections then it is possible that they may be false positives so require further investigation.

:-[ I ran in through Jotti Online Scanner ;) Had no idea what it was, except that it probably was a False Pos.

Nice work

;D ;D ;D

This is the kind of program that will make newbie’s (novices) become experts in
re-installing their operating system.
Use it blindly and you’ll need your system setup disc when you reboot.

Yes, besides, other 12 results are shown after all updates. interesting, but i never had kazaa in this system, limewire is clean for sure. damn, it was a good program before update, and now it NEEDS exclusion list, as these 12 false entries makes me nervous! >:(

http://forum.emsisoft.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&m=868&#868 Just waiting for more answers for emsisoft… :-\

What worries me =YLAP= is I got exactly the same results as you, and yes Kazaa, which I’ve never installed. I have a recent version of Limewire which is clean of Malware as they’ve made a huge effort to make it that way !
The same results; seems like some kind of generic Scan Results list. As you said a-squared did used to do a good job. I feel it’s lost all my confidence in it, plus I’ve been getting retro upgrades of Virus data base , going back to October '05.
Word is hang in there and see if they can pull it back together, in the meantime I’m gonna just keep it updated, and see if it becomes stable.

Another who found a headache ;D http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=9671.msg162586#msg162586

I’m not going to argue with developers in the emsisoft forum anymore… :-\ It’s more whan useless. We’ll see if something changes in near future… :-\

Bob is right. I can’t recommend this program for novices anymore, as it can do unrecoverable damage as this program does not have quarantine and it just deletes everything it “finds”. Use this program with attetion.

a2 has always had alot of FP’s at least on my machine…That’s why i got rid of it, i use Ewido instead

An excellent recommendation…
Why look for headaches when the developers don’t even supply asprins??? ;D ;D

I agree, however, ewido can’t be used by win98 users.

I too can’t consider it an option for novice win98 users.
