Warning for people switching from Windows 8 to Windows 10.

Hey guys.

A few days ago I decided to finally give Windows 10 a shot. I had been having a minor problem this entire time. Occasionally, my wifi would occasionally detect no access points in range when they are plenty. I learned the solution was to go into ‘Device Manager’ and reset my wireless car. It was a minor, but inconvenient problem. I would lose my stored wifi passwords in the process. I thought that upgrading might fix it. Anyway, I can apparently switch back if I don’t like it, right? Didn’t feel any hurry before, since I was using Start8, which gave you a Windows 7 Start bar.

After restart, I got a message telling me that update failed because of my anti-virus program. Over time I started getting problems. Today, I couldn’t get any work done because all the icons on my desktop became unclickable, none of the programs I started would launch.

I decided to try seeing if upgrading to Windows 10 again would solve these problems. I uninstalled avast for safety and then the computer restarted after uninstall.

I then hit the Windows 8 Automatic Repair/Startup Repair page. After trying several times to Refresh, switching to safe mode, anything; I had no choice but to reset my computer and lost all my files.

So guys, uninstall/disable your anti-virus before upgrading to windows 10.

Something I’ve never done and have never had a problem upgrading to windows 10 from both
Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. It does help to make sure that all of your Windows updates have been applied prior to the upgrade.
You also need to make sure that your drivers are as up to date as possible.
