I suggest:

  1. Disable System Restore and then reenable it again.
  2. Clean your temporary files.
  3. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on. If avast does not detect it, you can try DrWeb CureIT! instead.
  4. Use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
  5. Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
  6. Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
  7. Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care.
  8. Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.

I have tried cyber defender in the past without much luck and it was very difficult to get rid of. Will the other options work? Also, whjat happens with what get sent to the avult? Doesn’t hesl, the problem? I ran a full system scan today and nothing showed up. These were always notified to me while I was on-line.
Thanks

Well… they’re the common cleaning procedure…

I’m not being able to read correctly your post… due to the typos, maybe. Can you rephrase?

cyber defender- the one with all the great reviews at tucows and c-net?
the one with antivirus2006?
we’ll clean up leftovers later

The items in the vault stay in the vault till you get other instructions or we’re done
you are doing everything right so far- vault etc

start doing what tech suggests
stay at it
post DETAILS of any finds

How do I run scan with archive turned on? Mine is disabled and cant seem to turn on.

Depends on which skin are you using…
When you click Local Disks the sensitivity options will appear.

Could u be more specific about how to enable archive scan? Do you increase sensitivity through files?

Yes, you can set the slider for the sensitivity level.

We could ask the same question you asked of Tech, can you be more specific about what you did/tried when trying to enable archives to be scanned ?

I assume you are using the default avast skin, see image.
