WARNING!!! SPYWARE TERMINATOR!!!

Spyware Terminator to me, it’s a ferrari with a lada motor engine. Don’t just look to the “exterior” of the software ;D

When it hits number 7, someone can post this image at the top, LOL

Yes, there is 9 girls… it seems like it’s going to go all the way up to 9… maybe even further, who knows ;D

Just out of curiousity…why are more than half the posts in a thread related to Spyware Terminator complete unrelated to Spyware Terminator?

For the same reason that 1/4 of the pages are related to adding another page… ;D
Totally off-topic

Well, maybe because this is a part of the forum called General forum. Since they shut down Off-topic forum, this is the best place…

I wouldn’t just say “…related to Spyware Terminator…”, it’s more like anti-“Spyware Terminator” which can be seen from its topic as well.

Drhayden1, that illusion thing is what made me (an others in believe) download Spyware Terminator the very first time. Error! Just how much will be fooled by the new low weight (4MB) setup file. Not for me! :-X
And I’m not alone in thinking:

To continue with ST. I have read all the posts by Tokar, but found nothing about my experience (see: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=29566.msg243366#msg243366 ).

Could he or somebody on his behalf comment?

jeez i skipped this thread since page 2

first
fatal false positives happens, especially with free software
just for fun let’s remind same fatal mistake from Symantec some months ago which slaughtered most of theirs chinese customers

second
use of common sense before clicking remove/cure w/e
call for support and read forums, the problem was resolved even for these who got hit by multiple solutions available
be happy developers are actively cooperating to help

third - version 2.x is beta, thus ‘on Your own risk’
if You found problem with uninstaller/installer/program self… then report it …

now why the hysteria about ST ‘all of sudden’ POS … i remember when Avast! was cause of BSODs noone called it POS …

It looks like a lot of us will start skipping this page 7  It looks like this will roll forever…

I thought he did address your issue, here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=29566.msg243874#msg243874.

OK so anyway, I saw a user post concerns that Spyware Terminator taking up X gigabytes on the computer. This is a bug which has been in existence for a while now. However we addressed this bug and it should be fixed in our current FINAL version of 2.0 which I linked above. It should read correctly now in Add/Remove Programs in the range of 30MB or so. Spyware Terminator has never taken more than 1GB of space, let alone 100MB, let alone 50MB... Tongue.

Also the best place to have addressed that problem surely would have been the ST forums.

Freeware doesn’t mean unattendable. Avast I can trust for 7 years now. No problem. Symantec (even the paid version, is no example). I COULDN’T DELETE OR QUARANTINE VIRUS WHEREAS aVAST COULD. Why are pro-ST always putting the beta 2.0 version forward. The catastrophe happened with their regular version! And I’m not sure at all it was a FP, could have been the virus ST couldn’t deal correctly with. Having to format or reinstall an image to a pc for a freeware flaw closes the love affair with it!

It is addressed there. I think a few users brought it up.

http://forum.spywareterminator.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=1986
(there are many more topics that brought up the issues in the past)

It is incorrect for me to assume users from other security forums to go hunting for bug threads on our forums…so I addressed the person’s response here :).

Such a long thread for 1 false positive detection. Seems like some folks were just waiting for something like this to happen so they can start shi***** against ST. So far i haven’t heard one decent argument as to why ST is so bad as some here claim.

I sometimes wish this forum was moderated a little more strictly, more than half of this thread is off-topic like Tokar said.

Wonder what gdiloren will have to say after he finds out that virtually EVERY anti-malware scanner out there produces false positives from time to time(yes even avast!). ::slight_smile:

Tokar thank you for taking your time and responding here i for one appreciate it !

It affected a very small number of users. If there was a larger number of users who were affected we would have seen a large drop in our userbase after the problem. This was not the case.

The users who had the problem came directly to our forums for help instead of going to other forums to rip the software. We had maybe 3 or 4 users who came to the forums. They were able to get the problem resolved in a timely manner. The problem existed only for a few hours before it was removed from the database, as Mimo said.

And if Im not mistaken it was an update for 2.0 which caused problems with 1.9, and therefore 2.0 would not have experienced the problem. So I dont understand your comment “putting the beta 2.0 version forward”.

It was an FP because that is what the threat team member (Mimo) alluded to.

That is, unfortunately, how things work with Spyware Terminator.

Everyone is looking for the smallest things to put ST back into the category of “rogue”.

I found Kaspersky AV, for example, detecting our software as a trojan during uninstall. I had the guy who handles these problems just e-mail KAV telling them there is a problem, and they e-mailed back in a few days or so (two days was the last wait time - jun 30 sent, aug 1 reply from KAV) saying it was fixed.
No one in the company goes around saying “KAV detected our software is bad, so therefore KAV is bad” on whatever security forum we find. We just keep everything on a professional level and get things resolved in a timely manner.

I continue to give KAV to people who i know are just ridiculously dumb when using the internet. In other words, I still trust KAV even with these small false positives.

I use ST without problems.
I think AVAST free, Comodo BOClean, COMODO FW, Win Patrol and ST are a very good free combo.
Today ST found a FP with NFS Car Manager, simply i sent a report.

Thanks Tokar for your time.

PD
Tokar, i recommend you AVAST!

Well, I’m sorry, I surf the internet at least 6hrs a day and I never had FP except the last fatal one with Spyware Terminator. Enough to make you quit. I never had this FP thing with AVAST. Of course, when it happens, you must be scanning your drive, which is rare among us I guess. That’s why only a few are reporting what I reported with Trojan Phoney winlogon since they never detected it whilst having ST on their PC inactive. I repeat, to get what I got, it must be a coincidence: (1) there must be a false positive in the definition update (2) you must ask at that time a complete files C:/ scan (3) you must be an inexperienced user. I don’t think so many people reads the forum. 8)
