WarningInternetMailVirus

Hello,
I just signed into the forum. I downloaded Avast Home free edition 3 days ago as it came highly recommended by a friend. However, I did not remove, nor deactivate McAfee as I had paid money for the program. All was working fine until this morning I got a audio and visual message that read (and said) WarningInternetMailVirus the windows of this message were gathering, the delete option was not available I could either send or not send,(send or not send what???). After closing these windows I performed a spyware search with Ad-aware, nothing was found then I opened my Avast selected a full system scan with the highest level and nothing was found. I did notice very little weird behaviour on Firefox, the page would not come up I had to reclick and then it would come up. I don t know if this is even worth noting. Could anyone tell me ,what that window was WarningInternetMailVirus and what was I supposed to do. Thanx anyone replying for her/his time and effort, jmmm47

Hello and Welcome

Well this is probably a message from the Internet Mail provider heuristics - which means that something is trying to send mails without you to know ( or do you know? ). The Internet Mail provider is blocking the sending. I suggest you to make an scan with some anti-spyware program - a-squared Free , AVG Anti-Spyware:wink:

Secondary - do you really use two resident AV scanners? Using two or more resident AV programs may be very dangerous for the health of your system. I suggest you to use only ONE resident scanner. ( if you do a forum search about that, you’ll find a lot of info )

Also if the anti-spyware programs, which I told you doesn’t find anything , please post your HiJackThis log here.

Thanx for your reply, Following the alerts , I did scan my computer with Ad-Aware and it found nothing. The alerts In question WarningInternetMailVirus ,refer to Spyware? As far as 2 AVs I will be unistalling McAfee, could the two AVs be the root of the problem? Thanx again jmm47

Yes , I’ve read that, but just for sure do a scan with one of the programs I’ve gave you the links for. Or post your HikackThis log file here.

Well, maybe yes, or maybe not. I mean the Alert window is from avast!'s mail protection, but the alerts may be caused by a malware activity (trojan, spyware …).

Well, honestly I can’t say, but it’s hardly believable to be this the problem. :-\

Thanx very much, I am not at my home computer at the moment. But I will scan with one of the AntiSpyware links as soon as I get home. If they find nothing (as AdAware found nothing) do you think my computer is safe and virus, spyware, malware free? On setting up Avast is there any particular thing I should do for tighter security in the programs' settings? I don t mind being bothered frequently by antivirus messages and alerts; I just want my PC to be safe. Cheers jmm47

After you uninstall McAfee, reboot and you might consider this tool to ensure no remnants.

McAfee has an uninstall tool that you could run to ensure any possible remnants are removed.

Well, as I already said if the anti-spyware programs doesn’t find anything and the messages are still appearing (from avast!'s mail provider) you better post your HIJACKTHIS LOG FILE here, so we can have a look

You are welcome. Keep us informed

 Hi Jimmmy :

If COMPLETELY REMOVING McAfee does NOT "resolve" the problem, I recommend you use
AVG Antispyware from www.ewido.net/en AND/OR the FREE version of "SUPERantispyware"
from www.superantispyware.com BEFORE installing the HijackThis program or posting a log
from it . HijackThis logs are BEST analyzed by volunteer Experts found on antiSPYWARE Support
forums; since you have Ad-aware, I recommend the Ad-Aware oriented forums at
www.landzdown.com .
