Was the last AVS update really over 7.5 megs?

I am on slow dialup so this is a big file. The last update I got was 750-2 which was not a huge file. The latest update is trying to download over 7 megs and it keeps timing out for me. any clues?

Well I’m on dial-up and the last auto update (iAVS Update is manual) 23/6/2007 000751-4 was fine and very small. http://www.avast.com/eng/vps_history.html

The complete download of the VPS from the web site, http://www.avast.com/eng/update_avast_4_vps.html is 7.42MB, so it looks like this is what you have done.

You should allow the auto update to download the incremental update which should be in the KB range not MB range. Or right click the avast icon, select Updating, iAVS Update, that should only download the updates between what you have and the current VPS version 000751-4.

The difference between what you have and the latest should be about 1-200KB max, unless your VPS has been corrupted or destroyed and you need to download the complete VPS. If this had happened you should have had an error message, since you didn’t mention this I can only assume this didn’t happen.

Thanks for the reply. The issue arose when the AVS auto updating was trying to download the 7+ meg file. I stopped that and switched to manual to update the AVS file only. It is still trying to download 7.5+ megs. I have the latest program file (4.7.1001) so I don’t know if this is a Vista problem or what.

I left click on the Avast icon, select “Updating” >> iAVS update, and it is trying to download 7.5+ megs, but keeps timing out.

The program was working fine through AVS update 750-2. Then skipped to 751-3 and tried to do the big download. ???

Maybe the virus database get corrupt.
Why don’t you download it completely here: http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/vpsupd.exe
Maybe you should use a download manager while using a dial-up.
