Web Browser running slower

Hi,

I am fairly new to AVAST and so far my experience has been all positive. There is one thing that I am uncertain about and would like to know if anyone else is or has experienced the same or similar. Ever since installing AVAST (home non-commerical version) my web browser is obviously slower. I use IE7 to connect to the web and I do not any other anti-virus software on my PC.

Maybe I missed a step during the setup? Is there something that I can possibly change in the settings to improve my browsing performance? Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions? All advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Some decrease on internet speed is due to WebShield protection of avast, the provider (resident) that scans http traffic before any file is saved to your disk. But, of course, shouldn’t have that impact. Are you using any other security software? Any firewall?

Welcome to avast forums and Merry Christmas!

 Hi :

Did you read through our "Installation Guide" located at
 http://download33.avast.com/files/eng/avast-professional-install-manual.pdf
 PRIOR to "Installing" Avast ?
Did you read through our "FAQ"s at www.avast.com/eng/faq-avast-4-home-professional.html !?
What was your previous antiVIRUS program ? Did you COMPLETELY
REMOVE "It" by also using its "Removal Tool", assuming One exists ?

Thank you ‘Tech’…Merry Christmas to you and your family too. I’m currently only using AVAST and no other security software. After reading your post I did check to see if Windows Firewall was on and it was but I didn’t think that would affect my internet speed. I just turned it off. I didn’t know that AVAST had its own. Does it?

My internet speed is still obviously slower. Thanks for the link I’ll take a look at it.

Please turn Windows Firewall on again. Avast is an anti-virus and does not have a firewall.

Also, can you please answer the questions posted by Spiritsongs so that we can better help you?

avast is only an antivirus, not a suite, not a firewall. Keep Windows firewall on. Better if you can use a 3rd party firewall with outbound protection. Although, you can live with just the Windows one.
I’ve asked to Lukas (the WebShield guru) what is going on… maybe we need to wait for him to come back from holidays.
