Is there a way to turn it off without loosing protection as you do when you do turn it off in the program?
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member and I don’t use the Avast Secure Browser.
As far as I’m aware the Web Guard works independently of the browser browser. If you have Avast Installed already you wouldn’t need to activate that protection in ASB as the Avast Antivirus, Web Guard should be doing it for all browsers.
As I don’t use ASB I’m unsure if turning this off would remove the Web Guard protection, so I did some searches.
The Web Guard totally drove me nuts with websites I knew were secure and it blocking them. So I did some research and found that when you go to uninstall Avast Premium Security it will give you an option, to modify it or uninstall. I picked modify and low and behold I could uncheck using Web Guard. I unchecked it. I have been with Avast for a very long time and really don’t like that they have made it so hard to undo things that they could make very easy to undo. I read suggestions like having buttons to press to remove say like Wed Guard without hiding it as they have in the forum. I really was ready to leave Avast as I was that mad and was looking for a replacement for it until I found the modify before I uninstalled. I thank you for your message and I hope my finding my own answer will help someone else who might be having problems also with Web Guard. Happy New Year DavidR
This really isn’t a solution and certainly one I would recommend lightly.
I fear you have acted in haste and in turning off/uninstalling it it leaves you wide open to attack from legitimate malicious sites.
You mentioned
You mention blocking, are you saying you were getting an Avast Alert or an error message from the website or it just doesn’t load. If you feel a website is being falsely detected you can report a possible false positive which would be investigated and removed if found to be a false positive.
Or you could have added an exclusion for that website/s rather throw the baby out with the bath water.
